No-Till Perennial Cover Cropping

Cool season perennial cover crops are advantageous options for growers of permanent crops as they reduce labor.

Maintaining living roots in the ground prevents soil compaction which in turn improves water infiltration.

The roots also create channels within the soil that increase its holding capacity, extending water availability to the crop.

As more land is farmed sustainably, this increase in the soil’s capacity to hold water has the potential to recharge the aquifers and provide greater resiliency during drought.
