California Soil Restoration Project

Interested in increasing your profits and restoring your soil?

Growers of permanent crops in California may be able to earn up to $100/year/acre for practices that promote soil health by joining the California Soil Restoration Project.

Participants in the California Soil Restoration Project agree to:

  • Keep living cover on the soil and minimize tillage

  • Incorporate biomass into the soil through wood chips or biochar at redevelopment

  • Verify the impact of this work through the terms set out by the CSRP

Participants will receive the following benefits:

  • ~$100 acre/year for acres with continuous living cover, minimal tilling

  • Hundreds of dollars per acre for tree/vine waste incorporated into soil at redevelopment

  • Free account on Cropland Stewardship Service for practice reporting and quantification

  • Access to low-cost financing for seed and redevelopment

  • Access to summer-dormant perennial cover crop

  • Seed delivery for our cover crop

  • Cover crop planting technical assistance

  • Access to seeding equipment
