Growers of permanent crops in California may be able to earn up to $100/year/acre for practices that promote soil health by joining the California Soil Restoration Project.
Participants in the California Soil Restoration Project agree to:
Keep living cover on the soil and minimize tillage
Incorporate biomass into the soil through wood chips or biochar at redevelopment
Verify the impact of this work through the terms set out by the CSRP
Participants will receive the following benefits:
~$100 acre/year for acres with continuous living cover, minimal tilling
Hundreds of dollars per acre for tree/vine waste incorporated into soil at redevelopment
Free account on Cropland Stewardship Service for practice reporting and quantification
Access to low-cost financing for seed and redevelopment
Access to summer-dormant perennial cover crop
Seed delivery for our cover crop
Cover crop planting technical assistance
Access to seeding equipment
